AI Policy

Policy Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

AZ Global Consulting Limited uses artificial intelligence tools as part of its research, drafting, translation, editing, data-handling and productivity workflows. We regard AI as a useful support tool, but not as a substitute for professional judgement, industry experience or responsibility for the work we publish.

All reports, newsletters, presentations, client notes and other materials issued under the AZ Global name remain the responsibility of AZ Global Consulting Limited. We are the authors, reviewers and final decision-makers. AI may assist in preparing or organising material, but it does not determine our conclusions, forecasts, judgements or recommendations.

1. Core principle

AZ Global uses AI to improve efficiency, clarity and consistency. We do not use AI to replace human expertise.

Our business is built on industry knowledge, data interpretation, market experience, supplier and customer understanding, and editorial judgement. These remain human responsibilities. Any material published or sent to clients under the AZ Global name must be checked, reviewed and approved by the relevant AZ Global team member before release.

2. Permitted uses of AI

AZ Global staff may use AI tools for appropriate support tasks, including:

  • drafting first versions of text;
  • improving grammar, structure and readability;
  • translating or checking translations;
  • summarising non-confidential source material;
  • helping organise data or identify possible anomalies;
  • preparing outlines, tables, charts or presentation structures;
  • comparing wording, checking consistency and assisting with formatting;
  • brainstorming possible interpretations, questions or risks.

These uses are permitted only where the final output is reviewed by AZ Global staff and checked against underlying data, source documents and commercial judgement.

3. Human control and accountability

AI-generated output must never be treated as automatically correct.

Before any AI-assisted material is sent to a customer, published in a report, used in a newsletter, posted on social media, or incorporated into a client deliverable, the responsible AZ Global staff member must check that:

  • the facts are accurate;
  • the numbers match the underlying data;
  • the interpretation is reasonable;
  • the language does not overstate the evidence;
  • names, locations, company details and dates are correct;
  • charts, maps, photographs and captions have been checked;
  • the final text reflects AZ Global’s own judgement.

AZ Global remains accountable for all material issued under its name, whether or not AI tools were used in its preparation.

4. Data, analysis and commentary

AZ Global’s value is not simply in collecting information. It lies in selecting relevant information, understanding its importance, testing it against industry experience, and explaining what it means for aluminium, alumina, bauxite, carbon and related markets.

AI tools may help organise or express analysis, but they do not own the analysis. AZ Global remains master of its data, commentary, conclusions and published output.

Where AI produces a suggested interpretation, that interpretation must be treated as a draft view only. It must be tested by the responsible analyst against the evidence, the market context and AZ Global’s own understanding of the industry.

5. Accuracy and verification

AI tools can produce incorrect, outdated, incomplete or misleading information. They can also create confident-sounding text that is not supported by evidence.

For that reason, AZ Global staff must not rely on AI as a sole source for factual claims. Important information must be verified against reliable sources, including AZ Global’s own databases, Chinese source material, customs data, company announcements, official statistics, market contacts, client-provided information or other appropriate sources.

Particular care must be taken with:

  • prices;
  • trade volumes;
  • production figures;
  • capacity numbers;
  • company names;
  • plant locations;
  • ownership structures;
  • maps and images;
  • legal or regulatory claims;
  • statements about individual companies or people;
  • allegations of misconduct or non-compliance.

6. Confidentiality and client information

AZ Global staff must take care when using AI tools with confidential, proprietary or client-specific information.

Client confidential information, unpublished client work, personal information, passwords, private commercial correspondence or sensitive business data must not be entered into public or unsecured AI systems unless there is a clear business reason, appropriate protection, and approval from management.

Where AI is used to assist with client work, the final responsibility for protecting client confidentiality remains with AZ Global.

7. AI-agnostic approach

AZ Global is AI-agnostic. We do not require all staff to use the same AI tool, and we recognise that different applications have different strengths and weaknesses.

Some tools may be stronger for writing, summarising or translation. Others may be better for research support, document handling, coding, spreadsheet work, image analysis, or working in particular languages. Availability also differs by country, platform, customer requirement and regulatory environment. Staff in China, for example, may not have access to the same AI tools used by staff elsewhere.

Because the AI sector is developing rapidly, AZ Global does not base its policy on any single AI provider or application. New tools, models and features will continue to appear. Staff may use appropriate AI tools available to them, provided they follow AZ Global’s standards on accuracy, confidentiality, verification, editorial control and customer responsibility.

The important issue is not which AI tool is used, but how it is used. All AI output must be treated as draft or supporting material only. The responsible AZ Global staff member must check the output, correct errors, remove unsupported claims and ensure the final work reflects AZ Global’s own data, judgement and standards.

Where a tool is known to have particular weaknesses — for example, weak source citation, poor numerical accuracy, unreliable translation of technical terms, outdated information or overconfident conclusions — staff must take extra care before using its output.

8. Editorial standards

AI-assisted writing must meet AZ Global’s normal editorial standards. It should be clear, accurate, commercially useful and appropriately cautious.

Staff must remove unsupported claims, exaggerated language, generic commentary and unnecessary filler. AI-generated text should not be allowed to make AZ Global’s work sound vague, promotional or detached from industry reality.

Where uncertainty exists, the final text should say so clearly. It is better to say “we cannot confirm” or “the data suggest” than to present an uncertain point as fact.

9. Customer assurance

AZ Global customers should be assured that AI is used only as a support tool. It does not replace AZ Global’s market judgement or responsibility for its published work.

Our customers receive AZ Global analysis, not machine output. Even where AI has assisted in drafting, editing, translation or organisation, the final material is reviewed and approved by AZ Global. The conclusions, forecasts, risk judgements and market commentary remain ours.

10. Ongoing review

AI tools are developing quickly. AZ Global will continue to review how these tools are used inside the company and will update this policy as necessary.

Our objective is to use AI responsibly: to improve efficiency and quality, while protecting accuracy, confidentiality, independence and customer trust.
